While so many people are impressed by the sophisticated, they forgot that the only way to get a sophisticated version of something is to master its basics and improve them. This is not only true in technology, engineering, and other technical fields; but also in leadership. So, what are the basics to master when it comes to leading in GBU? The basics to master for a leader in GBU are summarized in GBUR’s mission statement. Namely, Reach, Equip, and Mobilize.

Reach

GBU, as a continuation of the gospel movement in the student world, exists to reach out to every student in the campus with the gospel of Jesus Christ. You may ask then, what are the basics to master when it comes to Reaching out? For the leadership of GBU to be effective, you must make sure every effective members of GBU can clearly articulate the gospel and reach out to his or her fellows.

Equip

It is obvious that it takes some work for the reached to get to a point where they can clearly articulate the gospel. That work is what we call discipleship. For the leadership of GBU to be effective, you must make sure you have an established process by which a student who is reached can grow into someone who is able to reach out to others and to help them grow.

Mobilize

It is also obvious that Reaching and equipping is not a one person’s job. It requires a partnership of people of different gifts. For the leadership of GBU to be effective, there must be a clear setting by which the reached are encouraged to not break the chain reaction. Furthermore, there also must be a system by which people from different work of life are encouraged to join in this ministry. It is under mobilization that GBU leaders are encouraged to establish reliable communication channels such as reporting, news sharing, and partnership building. In that way each one as he has been gifted contributes to the establishing of the body of Christ.
