Evangelism, a lifestyle in GBU IPRC-Kigali

Every Friday at 16:00 PM, students from GBU get together for a moment of prayer. After praying together, they head to different parts of the campus to reach out to their fellow students with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This weekly program adds to personal commitments made by the same students to regularly engage their classmates and roommates with the good news of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

In GBU-IPRC-Kigali, this initiative was started by a group of 5 students after they have attended a training on friendship evangelism last December. Now, it has grown to involve the whole GBU. So far, 42 students have had a personal encounter with someone who explained to them the message of the gospel. Among the reached, 10 have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and they are currently being followed up in small groups.

Testimonials

After the training on Friendship evangelism, it became crystal clear to me that there are people out there who do not know the Gospel and they are perishing. I felt the burden for them and the zeale to share the gospel with them. In the beginning I was nervous. But now, the more people I reach, the bolder I get to reach out even more people. Not only through GBU program but also every where I go.

What pushed me to join this evangelism is that, I only understood what I believe when I got to the campus. Once I discovered the work that Jesus did on the cross for me and realized that out there are so many people who do not understand this. I committed to go and tell them. One thing that this changed in me is that I realized that God is still doing miracles. I never thought one could be saved simply by hearing someone like me sharing God’s word with them. I saw that God has prepared his people long before I even go to them. There are people I approached, while doubting even whether they will hear me out. But, I find God had prepared them long before. As soon as I finish sharing, they were ready to receive Jesus. It is a miracle. It is very encouraging but also a warning. There are people out there whom God has already prepared. If we don’t tell them the good news, God will ask us about them.

Before, I was very scared. I wondered how I can approach someone or where I can start. But after the first time, the fear was no longer. Now, I somehow find myself always looking for opportunities to turn any discussion, any event, anything into an opportunity to share the gospel with the people involved in it. However, we do have a challenge in following up this people we need more training in this area. We need our cells to be stronger in this area of nurturing new believers.
