We have no exact date of his birth and yet the world’s chronology is linked to it. He never wrote a book but more books have been written about him than anyone else in history and the output is still accelerating. The nearest thing that we have to his bibliography is being translated to over 2000 languages.
In his day many came to different conclusions about who he was. The religious leaders called him a blasphemer a fraud. Others called him a carpenter – a local boy and even his followers in the beginning were wondering who he was. The only group that got it right all the time –interestingly was the demons in Mark 1:24,
A Prolific English writer, Herbet .G. Wells, called him “The most dominant figure in history” and Church historian Philip Schaff gave the description of his influence with better tone “ Jesus Of Nazareth, Without money and arms, conquered more millions than Alexander, Caesar, Mohammed, And Napoleon; Without science…he shed more light on things human and divine than all philosophers and scholars combined; without the eloquence of schools, he spoke such words of life as were never were spoken before or since, and produced effects which lie beyond the reach of any orator or poet; without writing a single line, he set more pens in motion, and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art, and sweet songs of praise, than the whole army of great men of ancient and modern times.”
He didn’t travel an area bigger than the size of Rwanda but his influence is worldwide. His followers make up the largest religious grouping that the world has ever known. In his lectures, Tom Price, Lecturer at Oxford University affirmed “He had no formal education but thousands of universities, seminaries, colleges and schools have been founded in His name. His public teaching lasted just three years and was restricted to one small country and now purpose built satellites, some of the world’s largest radio and television networks beam his message around the globe.”
Right now as you are reading this article millions of people are studying what he said and are trying to apply the significance of his words and his actions to their own lives.
The Bible says a lot about who he is and also people all around the world have what to say but eventually this remains a personal question. Even Jesus himself on this same question, made it a personal question to his followers in Mark 9:20 “But who do you say that I am?”
One person who stands out in 60 billion people is worth a second look. Who do you say he is?
